Report: Newcastle seriously keen on 'dangerous' £34m star who dreams of PL move

Newcastle United can look forward to the summer safe in the knowledge they’ll be playing in the Premier League next season.

The Magpies looked down-and-out in January, but now they could yet finish in the top half of the table.

And the summer transfer window could well see Newcastle bolster their ranks significantly.

England's 7 Best Youth Players In 2017: Where Are They Now?

Although the Magpies struck gold with Bruno Guimaraes, they could certainly do with a defensive midfielder.

Back in January, Newcastle were reportedly eyeing PSV Eindhoven’s Ibrahima Sangare.

Now, Eindhovens Dagblad has claimed that the Magpies remain ‘concretely interested’ in the 24-year-old.

The Dutch outlet – via Sport Witness – claims Leicester are also up against Newcastle for Sangare’s signature.

The Ivory Coast international has established himself as one of the best players in the Eredivisie this season.

As a result, it’s no surprise that the likes of Newcastle are reportedly eyeing him.

ED, however, have claimed that PSV want the ‘absolute top price’ for Sangare should he leave this summer.

That said, their valuation of the midfielder is still relatively affordable for a leading Premier League suitor.

They reportedly want at least €40m (£34m) for him, a fee that would make him the most expensive departure in the club’s history.

At the moment, no clubs have made a move, added ED.

However, according to insiders consulted by the newspaper, Newcastle and Leicester are ‘concretely interested’ in his services.

“First on the team sheet”

Sangare has been sensational for club and country this term, earning widespread praise.

“Ibrahim Sangare is better on one leg than Leicester’s midfield,” PSV legend Aad de Mos recently told Voetbal4U.

“This season, he is the king of PSV.

“Sangare is not only suitable for Leicester, he can also easily join an even higher club.

“He can easily play at Tottenham and certainly also at Arsenal. He is better than Albert Lokonga.

“Sangare is a great player. I think 35 million euros is a good price.

“He would be first on the team sheet for any of those teams (Leicester, Arsenal and Spurs).

“You need someone like that, who takes the ball and always puts the boot in.

“And, lately, he has also become dangerous in the opposition penalty area.”

PSV coach Roger Schmidt, meanwhile, deemed Sangare “unstoppable”.

“A dream of mine”

In an interview with De Telegraaf earlier this month, Sangare revealed he dreams of playing in the Premier League.

He said: “I am a PSV player, and I am concentrating on the three games we have left this season.

“I don’t have my head in other things. After that, I’ll go on holiday, and I’ll have time to talk about possible next projects. But until then I don’t want to worry about that.

“Playing in the Premier League is not only a dream of mine but a dream of every footballer. That is the biggest and most important league in the world.”
