Report: Newcastle send delegation abroad, hope to tempt 'dynamic' Brazilian with £100k-a-week wages
Newcastle United have reportedly made Diego Carlos an offer of £100,000-a-week in wages if he joins.
The Magpies have already signed a right-back and a striker in the January transfer window.
Now, Newcastle are seemingly trying to sign a new centre-back.
And Carlos appears to be one of Eddie Howe’s main targets this month.
Sky Sports recently claimed the Magpies have made a new offer for the Sevilla ace.
And Chronicle Live claimed Carlos’ representatives have been taken aback by Newcastle’s persistence.
Now, according to 90Min, Sevilla have put talks on ice as they’re focusing on the Great Derby this weekend.
They’re up against local rivals Real Betis in the Copa del Rey last-16 on Saturday night.
The outlet claims talks will resume next week, with Newcastle having “people in Spain over the weekend”.
Newcastle are reportedly ready to offer Carlos terms “well in excess” of £100,000-a-week.
This would see the Brazilian’s wages trebled.
Admittedly, the Magpies have a lot of work to do in taking a key player from a title-chasing side mid-season.
However, Carlos is reportedly open to the idea of joining Newcastle and they’re not yet willing to give up the chase.
The Magpies could be looking to pay in excess of £40million for Carlos, a player who’s earned plaudits aplenty.
Fabiano Soares, Carlos’ former coach at Estoril, told ESPN Brasil: “He is very fast… he is a dynamic, intense, fast player.”
And Owen Hargreaves told BT Sport: “I think Sevilla have the best centre-back, the most underrated centre-back, in European football in Diego Carlos.”
