The Northern Echo have claimed that Newcastle United are rivalling Atletico Madrid, Real Betis and Sevilla are interested in signing Marseille right-back Bouna Sarr this summer – after an excellent 2019-20 campaign.
Sarr, 28, was a crucial part of the Marseille side that finished second in France’s top tier last season under Andre Villas-Boas – before the season was cut short. He had a hand in five goals during his 32 appearances.
Marseille have qualified for the Champions League but that has not stopped Newcastle from becoming interested in the uncapped Frenchman. It is believed Sarr would cost a relatively cheap £13.5million.
It is believed contact has been made between Newcastle and the player’s representatives. The Toon are seemingly unwilling to pay Valentino Lazaro’s £20million permanent clause – which is why Sarr has been targeted.

TBR’s view – Not just Lazaro, but Yedlin too
CBS Sports claimed last week that Yedlin was due to hold a meeting with Newcastle’s hierarchy this summer over his future – after entering the final 12 months of his contract. The report claimed he was 90% likely to leave.
So, signing Sarr – who would be playing in the Champions League next season if he stays at Marseille – would not only be a coup for Newcastle, but it is likely to spell the end of Yedlin and Lazaro at St. James’ Park.
