Newcastle United have turned down the chance to let Sean Longstaff leave on loan, with the Daily Mirror reporting that Valencia had bid for the midfielder.

Longstaff has struggled to make an impression this season. He has not featured since the hugely disappointing defeat at Sheffield United earlier this month.

Nevertheless, it appears that Steve Bruce has no interest in letting him leave. According to the Daily Mirror, Valencia made a bid to take Longstaff on loan.

The offer included a £15 million option to buy the 23-year-old in the summer. However, the Mirror claims that that bid has been rejected.

The report adds that Newcastle want to hand Longstaff a new contract despite his form. His current terms run out at the end of next season.

Newcastle’s decision to reject Los Che’s bid makes a lot of sense. It would be interesting to see what the reaction would have been had Valencia made an immediate £15 million bid.

But a loan does not do the Magpies many favours in this window. As noted by The Times, he is currently on £25,000-a-week.

So Bruce’s January funds would only receive a tiny boost by Longstaff leaving on loan. And it appears that there would be no guarantee that they would receive £15 million in the summer.

Longstaff needs to improve. But Newcastle have still made the right decision snubbing Valencia’s bid.
