Report: Newcastle ready to offer 'stunning' player £150k-a-week
Newcastle United are ready to offer Jesse Lingard a deal on loan that sees the 29-year-old earn the same wages as the club’s highest-earner, according to a report from 90min.
The Magpies have stepped up their pursuit of the attacking midfielder. 90min has claimed that they have now offered Manchester United £10 million as a loan fee for the England international.
It is a remarkable figure. So it is no surprise that Newcastle reportedly expect the offer to be accepted. The problem however, was said to be convincing Lingard to join the club ahead of the final months of his contract at Old Trafford.
90min reports that he has rejected the chance to join Tottenham or West Ham. And with the Magpies in trouble this term, Eddie Howe may have a tough job on his hands.
However, Newcastle are ready to push the boat out further. It is suggested that they are ready to offer Lingard a contract worth £150,000-a-week while he is on loan. He would also receive a big bonus should the Magpies stay up.
Lingard may struggle to turn down offer with Newcastle prepared to make star their joint-highest-earner
Judging by previous reports, Lingard would earn the same amount as Kieran Trippier should he head to Tyneside. It was claimed that Trippier was set to become the club’s top-earner ahead of his move.
Perhaps Lingard may be wary of moving to St James’ Park. His stock is still high due to his brilliant loan spell at West Ham. He was labelled ‘stunning‘ by Alan Shearer while at the London Stadium.
And with that, there are likely to be some amazing offers in the summer.
Meanwhile, he may also hold out hope of forcing his way into the Manchester United fold. He has obviously spent more than 20 years on the books with the club. And he may be reluctant to end his time on a disappointing note.
But Newcastle’s offer is going to be difficult to turn down. Lingard is surely still going to attract offers in the summer even if he is unable to replicate his form for West Ham. Obviously, injury could throw a spanner in the works.
Financially, it is an incredible offer. And it would be quite something if Lingard decided to turn it down.
