Sky Sports have claimed that Newcastle United’s prospective owners will offer Mauricio Pochettino a whopping £19million a season – and have a plan B in the form of Rafa Benitez.

Pochettino has been heavily linked with Newcastle of late, as the club reportedly nears a takeover. Steve Bruce is currently in charge and is expected to remain in the hotseat until the end of the season – whenever that is.

Along with the likes of Max Allegri and Lucien Favre, Pochettino has been identified by Newcastle’s potential new owners as the man to take the club forward. It remains to be seen if Pochettino is keen on a move to Tyneside.

The report claims Newcastle’s cash-rich owners are willing to offer Pochettino an enormous contract offer – worth a huge £365,000 a week. They are impressed with the ex-Southampton manager’s spell at Tottenham, and his building of the club.

However, if Pochettino does not take the job, it is believed that Rafa Benitez will return to the club. Benitez remains an icon among supporters after his three-year spell at the club – despite leaving last summer to join Chinese side Dalian Yifang.

An announcement over a takeover, forefronted by Amanda Staveley, is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The takeover is at the Premier League checks stage, with a £17million deposit already paid.
