Report: Newcastle will have to pay £50m to sign Manchester City target who's 'very good technically'

Newcastle United have reportedly been quoted £50million for Benoit Badiashile, a player who’s also been linked with Manchester City.

The Magpies are eager to sign a new centre-back in the January transfer window in pursuit of Premier League safety.

And multiple reports have been claiming that Newcastle have been pursuing Badiashile, one of Ligue 1’s best youngsters.

However, the St James’ Park outfit aren’t the only club seemingly keen on the Monaco starlet.

RMC Sport claims that both Manchester City and West Ham have joined the Magpies in the Badiashile race, and are ‘monitoring the situation’.

The French outlet – via Sport Witness – claims Pep Guardiola’s charges would only move for the 20-year-old if Nathan Ake leaves the Etihad.

Centre-back is a much more pressing issue for Newcastle, whose top-flight survival is at stake.

And Badiashile would be a great shout for the Magpies, a young player set for stardom.

Monaco vice-president Oleg Petrov told Get French Football News in 2020: “He is a great talent.

“Very good technically, very humble, very fast, gives a lot of comforts when he plays, but still very young.

“Playing all the games as a starter, it is a huge opportunity for him to develop into a player of the highest calibre.”

“Little bit of a warning sign for Newcastle”

Sky Sports have reported that the Magpies are making good progress for Diego Carlos.

Dharmesh Sheth notes that Newcastle retain a strong interest in Badiashile, however.

That said, he fears the Magpies will lose interest due to Monaco’s asking price, not to mention his recent injury.

“Newcastle’s primary focus right now is to bring in a central defender,” Sheth told Sky Sports.

“The player in question is Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.

“It’s been confirmed to us that a bid has been made for Carlos and Newcastle are now awaiting a formal response from Sevilla. It hasn’t been accepted or rejected.

“As for their other targets, they do still retain a strong interest in Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile.

“However, this one is beginning to look increasingly unlikely – there’s two reasons for that.

“There’s still no confirmation on how long he’ll be out for and I think that is a little bit of a warning sign for Newcastle.

“The other issue is the asking price. I’m told Monaco’s asking price is close to €60million (£50million), which I don’t think Newcastle want to go anywhere near.”
