Report: Newcastle put a staggering 14 players up for sale as Howe's actual transfer budget is now shared
14 Newcastle United players have been put up for sale ahead of Eddie Howe’s first summer transfer window in charge.
The Daily Mail report that Howe currently has £60 million to play with but that total could be boosted by a host of outgoings.
The exact 14 players are not named but players who have struggled for gametime under Howe, or were even left out of the 25-man Premier League squad for the second half of the season look the most likely candidates.
£60 million is quoted in the report but it would be a surprise if Newcastle were putting an exact number on things in negotiations.
14 Newcastle players for sale
The report says: “A striker, left-back, right winger, centre-back then midfielder are priorities.
“A £15 million option exists for on loan left-back Matt Targett and a keeper is wanted on loan.
“A budget of £60 million can be boosted by sales with up to 14 players being made available.
“Lille’s Sven Botman and Reims’ Hugo Ekitike are two they are pursuing with a long list of alternatives.“
Being good at moving players on is almost as important for a top club as getting the right people through the door these days.
Clubs know that Newcastle have no financial imperative to sell and it will be interesting to see how that plays out this summer.
Howe probably needs to shed quantity in his squad and add quality in key areas.
The January window was pretty much all about getting in proven Premier League experience, but Bruno Guimaraes has shown that Newcastle can get outstanding players from overseas with the right scouting and recruitment.
