Newcastle United are preparing to make a bid for Goncalo Ramos which goes close to Benfica’s asking price this week, according to a report from O Jogo.
The 21-year-old is on the Magpies’ radar as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his attacking options. Newcastle are yet to sign a first-team striker in this window.

Reports last week claimed that Newcastle lead the race for Ramos. And it seems that they are planning to confirm their interest in the coming days.
In fact, O Jogo suggests that Newcastle plan to make a bid for the Portugal under-21 star this week.

Benfica want £33.8 million (€40 million) for Ramos. However, the Portuguese side only want to discuss a deal for their starlet once their Champions League play-off tie is out of the way. They face Dynamo Kyiv for a place in the group-stages.
Newcastle are reportedly planning to go close to the asking price. But it remains to be seen if Benfica are willing to agree a compromise.
Newcastle preparing Goncalo Ramos bid
It would be a big boost for Newcastle to sign Ramos. Obviously, it has been clear for some time that Howe wants to add a young forward to his ranks this summer.
Reports suggested that a fee was agreed to sign Hugo Ekitike before he joined PSG. So they will be hoping that they have more luck with Ramos.
He looks to be a remarkable talent. And the Portuguese top-flight has become a more popular market for English clubs with some real gems coming from the division.
It would be a huge statement if Newcastle were ready to pay over £30 million for Ramos in the coming days.
