Newcastle United appear to be edging closer to potentially appointing Paulo Fonseca as their new manager, with The Telegraph reporting that the Magpies are prepared to pay the 48-year-old £6 million a season.
Newcastle look to be making progress in their pursuit of Steve Bruce’s replacement.

It is claimed that they are yet to decide whether to appoint a permanent boss in the near future, or look to someone to see out the season and ensure that they remain in the Premier League.
But Fonseca is seemingly in pole position. The Telegraph reports that Amanda Staveley was left impressed by the former Roma boss after talks.

Newcastle are prepared to make Fonseca one of the highest-paid managers in the Premier League. He would earn around £115,000-a-week if a deal was finalised.
But The Telegraph notes that an appointment still needs to be approved by Newcastle’s new chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
Fonseca an exciting option for Newcastle as Staveley seemingly backs appointment
Of course, appointing Fonseca does not come without risk. He is yet to manage in the Premier League. And Newcastle find themselves in a precarious position.
Having said that, Fonseca has a lot going for him. He is vastly experienced, despite being relatively young.
He is also available right now. So he would have time to instil his philosophy on the team before any sort of relegation battle ensues.
Fonseca won three league titles with Shakhtar Donetsk. And he won at least half of his games in each of his last three jobs.
