French outlet Foot Mercato has claimed that Newcastle United are one of four European sides interested in signing Lyon attacker Bertrand Traore, who came through the ranks at Chelsea before chancing his arm at Lyon.
Lyon’s number 10, 24, continues to impress for Lyon in glimpses – having had a hand in nine goals during his 34 appearances this season, 21 of which he has started. His form has dropped though, having been involved in 25 goals in 2017-18.
The 52-time Burkina Faso international managed 16 appearances for Chelsea after breaking into their senior side – scoring two Premier League goals, before a loan move to Ajax. A move to Lyon followed in 2017, for a fee of £8.8million (BBC).
The report claims that Newcastle have made it clear that they are interested in Traore. However, Newcastle are not alone in their pursuit of the winger, with Bayer Leverkusen, Sevilla and Real Betis all interested.
Everton were interested in signing Traore last summer, while the African ace is said to be considering his latest proposals.

TBR’s view – Traore very much in mould of Allan Saint-Maximin
But perhaps lacking Saint-Maximin’s charisma. Coming from the French league, as did Saint-Maximin, Traore is renowned for his explosive pace and ability to either cut inside and have a shot at goal, or reach the byline and crossing the ball.
However, Traore’s end product has come into question at times. Yes, Traore can produce magic and in glimpses he has hard to stop on his day – such form he showed during 2017-18. But this season, a lack of momentum has halted the winger.
If Newcastle are to get the best out of Traore, he needs to start week in, week out in order to build his momentum and confidence. Using him as a bit-part player will see him struggle – as he has done this season.
