The Shields Gazette has claimed that Newcastle United “are on the verge” of completing a £20million deal, with the move expected to be the signing of OGC Nice speedster Allan Saint-Maximin, hours after signing Joelinton.
Newcastle signed 22-year-old Joelinton from Hoffenheim on Tuesday evening, which comes as Steve Bruce’s first signing as manager of the Toon since replacing Rafa Benitez earlier this month.
It is believed a second summer signing is close to putting pen to paper at Newcastle, with Toon representatives travelling out of the country to secure a deal to land the France Under-21 international.
Saint-Maximin is believed to be valued at £20million by OGC Nice who are managed by Patrick Vieira, one of those linked with the vacant managerial role. In 74 games for Nice, he has scored 11 goals and laid on 14 assists.

TBR’s view – Saint-Maximin a Newcastle bargain at £20m
There are concerns that Saint-Maximin has a bad attitude but if Bruce can get the skilful, fast-paced winger in check, then he can become a legend at Newcastle.
For a player with the potential to break into the France squad and already has 150 appearances under his belt at senior level, £20million for a player such as Saint-Maximin is a bargain and one that can take Newcastle to the next level.
