Newcastle United have reportedly offered Christian Atsu to Championship side Nottingham Forest on loan.
According to The Daily Mail, the Ghana international is being weighed up for Sabri Lamouchi’s side, who are gunning for promotion this season.
Atsu has struggled for game time this season at St. James’ Park.
So far, he has made 22 appearances across all competitions but only eight of those have been starts.
The 2017 signing from Chelsea has undoubtedly been struggling as a result of the presence of Allan Saint-Maximin, who arrived in the summer and has established himself as a firm crowd favourite.
The maverick Frenchman has actually made fewer appearances than Atsu (14) due to injury, but has spent more minutes on the pitch than his teammate (984, 968).
Apparently Atsu was also offered to West Bromwich Albion this week, suggesting the 28-year-old is surplus to requirements.
TBR’s view – Newcastle wouldn’t miss Atsu
There appears to be a reasonable chance of Atsu leaving the club on deadline day, but his departure wouldn’t affect Steve Bruce too much.
The winger hasn’t scored all season and has made just four assists, showing he hasn’t been all that influential.
According to WhoScored, he’s been averaging 0.3 shots per 90 and just 0.9 dribbles per 90 in the Premier League which is fairly uninspiring.
If the club have a winger lined up, then they shouldn’t think twice about offloading Atsu – if reports are to be believed, they’re ready to do just that.
