Newcastle United believe that they have found a training regime for Allan Saint-Maximin that will allow the Frenchman to manage his body better, according to a report from The Athletic.

Saint-Maximin has been an ‘outstanding‘ shining light for so much of his time on Tyneside. However, he has endured a more frustrating time of late.

He has not provided a goal or assist since mid-January. And he has not started for Eddie Howe’s men since mid-February. That has largely been down to injury.

He has missed three of their last six Premier League games. In total, he has apparently missed 33 games due to injury or illness since his arrival in 2019 (Transfermarkt).

And with that, some may question whether his importance to the side has waned slightly now that the Magpies look to be moving in the right direction.

But it would seem that those working behind the scenes at Newcastle are optimistic that Saint-Maximin has a lot more to offer in the future.

The Athletic reports that the club do believe that his conditioning is improving. And they have put together the ideal regime to help him manage his body.

Saint-Maximin could be world-class if everything now clicks at Newcastle

When Newcastle’s takeover went through, the fans would have been forgiven for wondering how good the 25-year-old could be once surrounded by better players.

He has often been left to fight a lone hand. And thus, he has had to deal with defenders doubling up on him.

So a better team around him appeared to have the potential to be game-changing for Saint-Maximin at Newcastle.

Fans are yet to see Saint-Maximin take his game to that next level. But it is certainly encouraging that the club feel that there is a lot more to come from the forward.
