Newcastle United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.

According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies have entered the race for the long-time Arsenal target.

Newcastle are trying to see if Tielemans is an option for them ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Magpies have been busy this summer, making four signings.

Matt Targett, Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak have all linked up with Newcastle.

Eddie Howe is reportedly still in the market for a midfielder, and Tielemans appears to be available.

The 25-year-old’s Leicester contract runs out in the summer of 2023.

His club therefore stands losing a key asset for very little in January, or for nothing next summer.

The Daily Mail, however, claims Leicester are yet to receive an offer they deem appropriate for the Belgian.

“A joy to work with”

Tielemans has been linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium all summer.

However, we are now in the penultimate day of the transfer window and no team has made their interest concrete.

But surely – you’d think – someone will move for Tielemans between now and tomorrow night.

And whoever signs him would be landing a top player.

“He is an outstanding player, one of Europe’s top midfielders,” Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers said last year.

“He is integral to our game and a joy to work with – a super professional.

“A young player with that focus is great to see.”

Sky Sports have previously claimed that Tielemans’ asking price is just £25million.

For a player of his calibre, age and Premier League / top-level experience, that is an absolute bargain.
