Newcastle now keen on £35m Premier League star who hasn’t missed a minute all season

Newcastle United remain keen on making new signings if they can and they could target a Premier League regular when the January window opens in a few months.

The Magpies had a summer of frustration in the market as Eddie Howe admitted they’d not been able to do the business they wanted.

However, there are still opportunities for Newcastle in the next few windows.

Newcastle missed out on Marc Guehi despite making huge bids, meaning a new central defender is obviously on the list for Howe and his coaching staff.

And according to CaughtOffside, Leicester City defender Wout Faes is very much in their sights.

Newcastle interested in signing Wout Faes

According to the report, Newcastle are keen on adding a new defender or two to the ranks and are looking at fellow Premier League clubs to do so.

It’s reported that Nottingham Forest defender Nikola Milenkovic is one of the names being looked at, while Leicester’s Faes is another.

Faes was considering his Foxes future in the summer but has remained at the club and has played every minute of every game so far this season.

Faes has also cemented himself in the Belgian squad and first-team, meaning his stock is as high as ever.

It’s claimed that Leicester want at least £35m for Faes if they do sell, while Forest want even more to even consider selling Milenkovic.

Faes ready for next step

Without disrespecting Leicester, Wout Faes is getting to the point where he’s possibly outgrown things.

In order to take his career to the next stage, he probably needs a move to a club like Newcastle who have ambitions of Europe and beyond.

For Eddie Howe, it’s clear he wants a new defender in the squad and someone like Faes would be ideal for Howe and his coaching.

Of course, the money would need to be paid and Leicester won’t sell for cheap. But Newcastle need strengthening, and Faes needs his next challenge soon.

This, then, could be the ideal transfer for all.
