Italian transfer expert Fabio Santini has told Area Napoli that Newcastle United have made a speech to Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis in a bid to convince the Serie A club’s owner to sell Kalidou Koulibaly to the Tyneside club.
Koulibaly, 28, is likely to be one of the biggest names on the move this summer. Already, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with the Senegal international – as have Newcastle.
A prospective takeover is expected to be completed in due course, which is likely to give Newcastle enormous power in the upcoming market – especially in a window where clubs are expected to need to sell to survive.
French outlet Le10Sport have claimed that Newcastle tabled an enormous deal to sign former KRC Genk defender Koulibaly this summer – worth a whopping £200,000 a week. Now, Santini has stated Newcastle have made contact with De Laurentiis.
Indeed, it is believed Newcastle have contacted the Napoli President in order to convince him over a move for Koulibaly. Newcastle have made a ‘speech’ to the Napoli supremo, and are willing to pay £9million more than Real Madrid.
“Newcastle made a clear speech to De Laurentiis,” Santini said. “The English club is willing to improve Real Madrid’s offer for Koulibaly €10m (£9m). Newcastle has made it known to Napoli that plans to offer more than Real Madrid.”
TBR’s view – Koulibaly could be the start of Newcastle’s golden era
Arguably one of the best central defenders in European football at the moment, Koulibaly has shown he is world class with some stunning performances in the Champions League – helping Napoli remain unbeaten in the competition this term.
If Newcastle can push the likes of Real Madrid and some of England’s biggest clubs aside to land Koulibaly, then they will have really pulled off a coup for the African defender. He has a contract at Napoli until the summer of 2023.
