Newcastle United have reportedly made a move to try sign midfielder Olivier Ntcham from Scottish giants Celtic this month.

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle have made a loan enquiry for the 24-year-old as they search for reinforcements in the centre of the park before the close of the transfer window.

It is explained that Celtic would prefer an option to buy clause in any loan deal due to the fact his contract expires in 18 months time at Parkhead.

The report adds that the Frenchman wants to leave, plus there is already interest from West Brom and French clubs for his signature.

Ntcham may have seen his individual form dip this season, but he’s a player that has won eight pieces of silverware during his time in Scotland.

The £35,000-a-week (Sun) is an all-action central midfielder that has 24 goals in 147 appearances for Celtic.

TBR’s View:

Newcastle may have to fight off interest from others to sign Ntcham on loan after joining the race to sign him, but it could be worth it.

He’s not someone that is going to make a big impact at St James’ Park if the last six months are anything to go by, but he’s shown his talent in the past and needs a fresh start.

Aged 24, he’s a central midfielder that has the athleticism and aggressiveness on his day to do a great job in front of a back four and looks tailor-made for the Premier League.

Additionally, he possess a bit of extra guile when pushed into more advanced roles and is the type of signing that could really add something extra to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle squad.
