Newcastle United are pressing ahead with the rebuild and according to reports this weekend, have now made contact with Marc Overmars over becoming their new Director of Football.
Overmars, 48, is currently on the books of Ajax and has been credited with overseeing a huge pool of talent to emerge in recent times. The likes of Frenkie De Jong, Matthijs De Ligt, and Donny van de Beek have all come through the club and been sold for huge sums.

And according to The Mirror, Newcastle have made their move to try and bring Overmars back to the Premier League. The report claims intermediaries have already initiated talks, and Overmars could be in line to quadruple his £620k-a-year wage packet.
As a player, Overmars won the Premier League with Arsenal. He was also part of the exciting Ajax team that won the Champions League.
Since returning to the Dutch club, he has been around for four Dutch titles, as well as two deep runs in the Champions League, including the semi-finals the year Spurs met Liverpool in the final.
TBR’s View: Overmars to Newcastle could be just as important as new manager
That’s how big it is for the club to get the right man or woman in this role at the club. It’s all well and good having the right manager, but they need someone with the knowhow to build a football club.
Overmars’ record speaks for itself really. He’s clearly got things down to a tee with Ajax, and Newcastle will be looking at that fondly.
If he can come to the northeast and replicate just half of the success he’s had over in Holland, then the Toon Army will likely be more than happy.
