Newcastle United have reportedly made contact to Ligue 2 club Guingamp for their youngster Matthias Phaeton.
According to Get French Football News, the Magpies have made an enquiry for the 20-year-old and contacted his representatives.
The report explains that talks are not at an advanced stage right now and it’s unclear on how much he would cost to sign in this summer transfer window, which closes on Monday.
Phaeton is a young emerging talent at Guingamp, who currently play in the second-tier of French football, and had a brief taste of Ligue 1 action back in the 2018/19 campaign with them.
After a brief spell out on loan last season, the centre-forward is back in the first-team at the beginning of the new campaign and has started with two goals in his opening four appearances, with all coming from the bench.
Phaeton is a fairly unknown talent with little senior experience, which is why he would surely be a signing for the Under-23s side if he did come to St James’ Park.
Newcastle currently have a number of striker options in their squad, with the likes of Callum Wilson, Andy Carroll and Joelinton all players that can fill the role if needed.
It’s been a problem scoring goals though for the Magpies and they need to improve in that department.
