Newcastle United are on the lookout for a new Director of Football (DoF) and Ajax’s Marc Overmars has been heavily linked with the role.

The legendary Dutchman has done a remarkable job in Amsterdam. He has transformed the club and has helped develop some of the finest players in the world over the last few years.

He would be a stunning option for the Magpies, who need someone who has the experience of building a good squad. Overmars checks all the boxes that PIF should be looking at.

He could be tempted as well as this is not the first time he has been linked with the Newcastle job.

Overmars wanted to join Newcastle years ago

According to a report from The Chronicle, Ex-Magpies chief scout Graham Carr recommended Overmars as a DoF option to the Newcastle board during the Dutchman’s early years at Ajax.

The report claims that Overmars was very keen to take the job as well, but the board, led by Mike Ashley, decided against going down the route of appointing a Director of Football.

Overmars continued at Ajax and he has been brilliant. He has helped produce excellent players like Frenkie de Jong, David Neres, Hakim Ziyech, Andre Onana and Matthijs de Ligt among many others.

He is exactly what Newcastle United need, and if they really want him, they should be able to get him quite comfortably.

Managers linked with the Newcastle job

Newcastle have been linked with a whole host of managers over the last few weeks.

The likes of Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca, Eddie Howe, Steven Gerrard and Lucien Favre are all reportedly on the Magpies shortlist, but it’ll take a little while before they make up their mind.

Newcastle head to Crystal Palace to take on Patrick Vieira’s men this afternoon. The Eagles have looked really impressive under their new boss, which makes them the favourites to pick up the win later today.

However, with a point to prove after Steve Bruce’s departure, Newcastle could well surprise the world.
