Report: Newcastle keeping tabs on Wijnaldum situation, keen to bring PSG star home

TeamTalk claim Newcastle want to bring Gini Wijnaldum back to Tyneside as his lack of game time continues under Mauricio Pochettino at PSG.

Wijnaldum, 31, joined PSG in the summer from Liverpool after his Reds contract had come to an end. He almost moved to the Nou Camp.

But PSG nipped ahead of Barcelona and lured him to the French capital, along with numerous other free signings including Lionel Messi.

Wijnaldum has since played 18 times for PSG under Pochettino – which on the face of it is plenty of game time since his move to the French giants.

But the 83-time Netherlands star has started just nine of those, and completed 90 minutes on just three occasions. Twice, an unused sub.

Having been left on the bench against Manchester City on Wednesday night, TeamTalk say Newcastle are keeping tabs on Wijnaldum’s future.

Wijnaldum back to Newcastle: Owners pulling off a miracle

Wijnaldum only spent the 2015-16 season at Newcastle, leaving the Toon after Rafa Benitez failed to keep his side in the Premier League.

But in that season, Wijnaldum had a hand in 16 goals from 40 games as more of a playmaker. Scoring 11, the Dutch ace laid on five assists.

Now, he is more of a deep-lying, workhorse midfielder that is capable of the odd goal or assist. His 38 goal involvements in 237 Liverpool games is proof.

Newcastle desperately need that added quality, but also the engine in midfield. Wijnaldum has a bit of both, and a connection with the fans.

Perhaps PSG would be open to a loan deal for Wijnaldum in January, and that has got to tempt Newcastle to sign the £165k-a-week star (De Telegraaf).
