The Telegraph have claimed that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Birmingham City wonderkid Jude Bellingham, who has broken into the Blues side despite being just 16 years of age.
Bellingham has broken into Pep Clotet’s side this season and has already clocked up 22 senior appearances for the Midlands outfit. In that time, he has scored goals against leaders Leeds United, Stoke City and Charlton Athletic.
The England youth international can play either out wide or in the middle of the park. According to a previous report from The Telegraph, Arsenal and Chelsea have also been scouting the Championship starlet. He has a contract until June 2021.
It remains to be seen what Bellingham’s plans are for the future, given six months ago he was merely part of Birmingham’s academy. The report claims Newcastle have £20million to spend in the January transfer window.
TBR’s view – Bellingham needs to remain at Birmingham City
That is, if the player is not given assurances about game time at any interested parties including Newcastle. There is no doubt, that with regular first-team football, Bellingham can become one of England’s best young players in years to come.
But he needs to be playing to achieve that. At Birmingham, he is doing that but in the Premier League, he is hardly going to be afforded a starting berth. If Newcastle are to spend big on Bellingham, they should immediately loan him back.
