Report: Newcastle join Liverpool, Tottenham, Barcelona and PSG in race to sign Franck Kessie

The transfer news keeps coming in for Newcastle, and CalcioMercato report the new owners have joined the race for AC Milan star Franck Kessie.

Kessie, 24, is shining for Milan. Last season, the Ivory Coast international clocked up 20 goal involvements – scoring 14 and creating six from midfield.

This season, his form has not been as good. But that could be down to two things – the first being that he played for the Ivory Coast at the Olympics.

The second being his contract situation. Kessie is in the final 12 months of his deal and a move at this stage seems increasingly likely.

CalcioMercato have reported that Tottenham have made an offer, while Il Milanista say Liverpool are keen on a move – with £24million enough.

That is, if clubs want to sign him in January. But from January 1, he will be able to sign a pre-contract – joining a new side for nothing in the summer.

The latest report says Newcastle have joined PSG and Barcelona in the race for Kessie. But the story claims that The Toon are eyeing a January move.

Newcastle transfer news: Kessie to Toon, Liverpool or Tottenham?

It is intriguing to think if big-name players will want to join Newcastle at this moment in time. Of course, The Toon have enormous financial pull.

That will appeal to some players. For Kessie, finances seem to be the reason he is not signing a new deal at Milan – they are in the Champions League.

For others, it will be position in the table, the project, Europe etc. In Kessie’s example, it seems a move for the money is hardly one he will turn down.

But if he has the choice of Spurs, Liverpool, Newcastle, PSG or Barca – where is best? Tottenham are in the ECL, hardly favourable. PSG have options.

He would not start. At Barcelona, he could transform their midfield – but would stunt the growth of Gavi and Pedri. Liverpool or Newcastle, is ideal.
