French outlet Le10Sport have claimed that Newcastle United are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain teenager Tanguy Kouassi just days after Leeds United were linked with a move – but Kylian Mbappe has other ideas.
Kouassi, 17, has starred in his early days for PSG before the global health crisis struck. Despite being a centre-back, the 12-time France Under-18 international has scored three goals in 13 senior PSG appearances – but his contract is due to expire in June.
Indeed, Kouassi scored PSG’s 4000th senior goal and is considered one of the best talents to come through the PSG account in recent years. The latest report claims that Newcastle are monitoring his situation, but RB Leipzig are best placed.
90min reported this week that PSG could use Leeds United, amid rumours the owners of PSG could buy a stake in the Championship leaders. Indeed, Kouassi could be sent on loan to Leeds next season, if he signs a PSG contract.
But it is clear that superstar Mbappe is a fan. With Kouassi’s contract situation widely known, Mbappe responded to an Instagram post of Kouassi’s in January – Mbappe responded: “It’s heavy. But also, sign the contract.”

TBR’s view – Kouassi could be a crucial part of Newcastle’s transfer plan
When Manchester City were taken over, they went big and signed the likes of Robinho. But the Brazilian struggled to shine as he had done at Real Madrid, given the standard of players around him were not that of Real Madrid.
It took City a couple of years to realise that they must build, rather than going big straight away. For Newcastle, they have been linked with high-profile names such as Edinson Cavani, Dries Mertens and Willian.
Bringing in players such as those who can contribute straight away is important. But also signing young players that can replace those in their prime is just as important and Kouassi is an example of that.
