Report: Newcastle join Everton in race to land Manchester United man Jesse Lingard

Newcastle United are the latest club to show an interest in signing Manchester United midfielder, Jesse Lingard.

According to a report from 90min.com, Lingard will be a man in-demand this summer after seeing his playing time at Old Trafford dwindle in recent times.

And while the likes of Everton and West Ham are keen, Newcastle have now thrown their name into the hat to land the England midfielder.

Lingard, who has drawn the wrath of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer previously for his off-field activities on social media, is on a £75k-a-week deal with United, according to the Express.

The 27-year-old has come under fire from fans at times this season, too. In 20 Premier League appearances, Lingard has yet to score or assist a goal for the Red Devils.

Newcastle, though, are looking for a host of new signings as they look to make an impression under their new Saudi-led owners.

Lingard does have it in the locker on this day. In the 2017/18 season, he notched eight times while also laying on a further five for his teammates.

However, the midfielder won’t be forced out of Old Trafford. Indeed, the same report from 90min claims United could well trigger a 12-month contract extension. That would, of course, ensure they receive a fee for Lingard should he move on.

It’s a shame that Lingard’s stock has fallen in the last few seasons. During that aforementioned 17/18 season, Lingard looked like he was finally fulfilling the massive potential he’s always had.

However, the time might be right for the midfielder to seek a move away now.

Newcastle will be looking to make big moves in the market. While Lingard might not be the marquee signing people will look for, he does have Premier League and big club experience.
