Report: Newcastle could move for in-demand Chelsea man next summer

As the names continue to be linked with Newcastle United following their takeover, the Daily Mail has claimed that Chelsea midfielder, Connor Gallagher, could be on their radar.

Gallagher is currently enjoying a fine loan spell with Crystal Palace after arriving on loan in the summer. The England under-21 star has brought goals and energy to Palace, with Patrick Vieira playing him in every game.

However, Newcastle’s recent news has meant that there is now fresh ready to do the rounds in the Premier League. And the Mail claim that Gallagher is a player Newcastle could look to sign at some point.

The Magpies are expected to move for the best of the rest when it comes to players in the PL. That will mean looking at the best players from outside the top six, or younger ones from those top clubs.

Every Premier League Team's BEST Signing In The Last 7 Years

Gallagher, then, fits the profile. The midfielder has enjoyed a fine start to life at Palace, with both Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher impressed by him.

He’s been one of the best players for Palace this season. Maybe with the new manager there is a slightly different style but he is so energetic. We talk about certain types of midfielder, he seems to do a little bit of everything,” Carragher raved when discussing Gallagher.

TBR’s View: Connor Gallagher to Newcastle is a realistic option

These next few weeks are going to see so many names chucked the way of Newcastle, or linked with them anyway. But while some will be realistic, someone like Gallagher is a realistic option.

He’s been outstanding for Palace so far. But he’ll want to do the business at Chelsea next year and if they can’t promise him that, then a move to Newcastle will do nicely.

Gallagher would be a key figure at St James’ Park. With that, he could be a shrewd signing for the Toon.
