Report: Newcastle interested in raiding Real Madrid for striker Luka Jovic on loan

The Shields Gazette has claimed that Newcastle United are planning for life without a takeover and the club’s scouts have identified Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic as a potential signing on loan.

The Toon’s scouting department have been told to find transfer targets for Steve Bruce, and to continue as if an impending takeover is going to fail. Of course, a takeover remains with the Premier League, awaiting approval.

Real Madrid spent £60million to sign Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, after he netted 36 goals in 75 for the German side. But the 22-year-old scored just two goals last season – starting only eight of his 26 outings.

The seven-time Serbia international was not allowed to leave Real on loan in January but that could be different this summer. Newcastle are keen on luring Jovic to Tyneside in order to inject goals into their team.

However, they face competition. Shields Gazette state that Hertha Berlin, Napoli, AC Milan and Arsenal have all been linked with a move. It remains to be seen if Newcastle will include a permanent clause, should they bid.

TBR’s view – Jovic would be an excellent signing, takeover or not

Jovic is a top, top striker that boasts a mix of power and pace – and a combination of aerial ability but plenty of quality with the ball at his feet. A bit of everything that makes the perfect number nine.

If Newcastle can get the Real Madrid star on loan, then they would be pulling off a major coup. He has not been given a fair chance at Real, but to join Newcastle and be first choice again will see him shine. A no-brainer.
