Newcastle United are interested in signing Lovro Majer, with Media Foot in France reporting that Rennes have promised the Croatian that he can leave in the summer.
The Magpies are looking to build on what has been an amazing start to the campaign. Eddie Howe’s side sit third in the Premier League table. And they are the only side to deny Arsenal victory at the Emirates so far this term.

They have got very little wrong in the market since the club’s new owners came in. And it seems that they have now joined a host of European heavyweights in the battle for Majer.
Newcastle interested in Lovro Majer
According to Media Foot, Newcastle want the 24-year-old. Meanwhile, both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are admirers of the Croatia international.

Rennes have decided that they will let Majer leave at the end of the season. And it is claimed that Newcastle hope to replicate the success of bringing Bruno Guimaraes in from Ligue 1 for £40 million 12 months ago.
The report notes that Newcastle have the financial means to win the race for the former Dinamo Zagreb star. But it is not clear what Rennes would want for the midfielder.
Majer has not been able to make the biggest impact this season, scoring just one goal and providing two assists in 14 Ligue 1 appearances.
However, he ranks extremely highly amongst Europe’s top leagues when it comes to shots, goals and assists amongst midfielders over the last 12 months – as shown by FBRef.
And the three players FBRef believes Majer is most similar to are Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Martin Odegaard. That is a remarkable mix.
And he would certainly be an unbelievable signing for Newcastle if those similarities came to the fore.
