Report: Newcastle interested in £47.5m Chelsea star, same agent as Toon player Schar
Bild reporter Christian Falk claims on Twitter that Newcastle United are interested in a shock move to sign Timo Werner from Chelsea.
Werner, 25, has endured a difficult spell at Chelsea since joining the club from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020 for a fee of £47.5million (Goal).
However, where the Germany international lacks in goals – he certainly makes up for in assists and work rate. He has played 60 times for Chelsea.
In that time, he has only scored 14 times – a ratio of one less than every four games. But Werner does has 16 assists; involved in a goal one every two.
That has not been missed by Newcastle’s new owners – who are now believed to be interested in signing Werner. That is, according to Falk.
The Bild reporter said Newcastle are keen on Werner with a Tweet – also stating that Werner has the same agent as Fabian Schar.
Werner to Newcastle: Shock move, that might just come true
The thing is, Werner is struggling to cope with the pressure at Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel has given him plenty of game time, and faith.
But ultimately, he has only started three of seven Premier League games this season. He needs to join a side where he is the main man.
So, could Werner potentially be the face of Newcastle’s new era? Well, financially, they can afford him with ease. There is a chance.
But would Werner want to swap the challenge of Chelsea – and European football – to join Newcastle. That, for now, remains an unknown.
