Report: Newcastle in talks to sign Denmark star, Townsend labelled ‘clinical’

French outlet Homme Du Match claim Newcastle United are in talks to sign Nice striker Kasper Dolberg, with the player allowed to leave in January.

Dolberg, 24, joined Nice for £18million (Mail) in the summer of 2019 from Ajax – having come through the academy to score 45 goal in 119 Ajax games.

The hype was huge, especially given Dolberg was already a Denmark international. While he has been good, he has not lived up to the potential.

In 62 games, the 32-time Denmark star has scored 20 goals for Nice – laying on five assists. Patrick Vieira’s signing not entirely setting the world alight.

However, he does have three Ligue 1 goals in seven games this season – and Newcastle are ready to take advantage. Talks are already underway.

It is said that Nice could be willing to let him go. During Euro 2020, on ITV, Andros Townsend branded Dolberg “clinical” after three tournament goals.

Dolberg to Newcastle: Perfect competition for Wilson up top

Wilson is probably one of a handful of Newcastle players that could be a part of the Toon side over the next couple of years, under the new owners.

Along with Wilson, one would argue that Martin Dubravka, captain Jamaal Lascelles, Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Allan Saint-Maximin could stay.

But for others, they are living on borrowed time and next summer – their futures could be in doubt. Wilson will need competition up top.

Joelinton and Dwight Gayle will certainly be offloaded in the coming months, perhaps even in January. Dolberg is the ideal cover for Wilson.

He is good competition and has plenty of potential to even improve on Wilson. But Dolberg also offers cover out wide, or even as a 10. Perfect.
