Newcastle United are in talks to sign AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek, according to a report from The Sun, and are hoping to land the striker on loan with an option to buy.
It has been an interesting first few months at St James’ Park for Steve Bruce. The Magpies are five points clear of the relegation zone, but they have lost their last three in the top flight. They are also heading for an FA Cup third round replay after drawing 1-1 with Rochdale on Saturday.
January is going to be an important month on Tyneside. And it appears that signing a new striker is going to be a key issue that Bruce would like to address.
The Sun reports that Newcastle are discussing a potential move for Piatek with the Rossoneri one year after his £30 million move to San Siro.
Piatek has scored 13 goals in 35 top flight games for Milan, but The Sun notes that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return to Italy may help push him towards the exit.
TBR View – Piatek could be an inspired signing for Newcastle
The Poland international would arguably be a brilliant addition for Newcastle, particularly if they can agree a loan deal.
His record at Milan is fairly good. And he was previously impressive during his time at Genoa. Meanwhile, Newcastle average less than a goal per game in the Premier League this season.
Piatek is the kind of excellent finisher who could ensure that the Magpies pull further away from the bottom three. And with an option to buy reportedly being discussed, perhaps he may have the potential to prove one the club’s most impressive signings for some time.
