CalcioMercato claim Newcastle United are in talks to sign Roma midfielder Carles Perez on a loan-to-buy deal from Jose Mourinho’s side. The report claim a deal for the versatile playmaker could even include an obligation. Talks are underway as Newcastle eye Perez – Mourinho wants to cash in.
Perez, 23, joined Roma initially on loan from Barcelona in January 2020 before a move was evantually made permanent last summer. It is said that Roma spent £10million to sign the Spain Under-21 international from Barcelona. His form at Roma has been good, but that might change.
Able to play in central midfield, as a 10 or on either flank – Perez has 11 goal involvements in 48 outings for Roma. Scoring five and creating six, he has only started 19 of his 48 games. He needs to join a side where he is getting regular game time and at Newcastle, he surely would.

Talks underway: Newcastle must raid Mourinho and Roma for Perez
It is a no-brainer for Newcastle. Perez scores goals, he creates goals, he offers quality in the final third and with the ball – from numerous positions. The report states talks are underway and Mourinho is keen to cash in on some of Roma’s fringe players. An option to buy could be an obligation.
It remains to be seen how much an obligation or an option for Perez would be – though it is likely to be similar to the figure paid for Perez last summer. Even if it is from the bench, Perez is ideal for Newcastle because he can offer cover all over the midfield. A talent that needs polishing.
