Report: Newcastle could sign another Brazilian after Bruno, Nickson's wanted him since 2020
Newcastle United are in talks with Sassuolo left-back Rogerio, according to reports.
The Magpies have made two signings so far in the January transfer window, and they may soon get their third.
Newcastle got the Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood deals over the line fairly early on in January.
Why The 2021 African Cup of Nations Is So Controversial
There’s been a bit of a lull since, but now the Magpies appear to be closing in on Bruno Guimaraes.
However, Newcastle are reportedly still hoping to land a left-back this month.
The Magpies have missed out on several potential targets in that position.
Aston Villa beat Newcastle to Lucas Digne, while Robin Gosens has joined Inter.
90Min reported earlier this week that the Magpies are now in talks with Rogerio.
The outlet claims Sassuolo want around £15million for the Brazilian.
And sources have told 90Min ‘there is a good chance that Rogerio will end January as a Newcastle player.’
Rudy Galetti also tweeted that Newcastle had even agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old.
Today, The Athletic has published a report saying Rogerio is ‘under consideration again’ by the Magpies.
He has reportedly been on Steve Nickson’s transfer lists for four successive transfer windows, since summer 2020.
However, The Athletic does also claim that Bayer Leverkusen’s Mitchel Bakker now ‘appears more likely to move to Tyneside’.
That said, Leverkusen would like to find a replacement for the Dutchman before letting him join the Magpies, added the report.

Newcastle began the window on a high note by landing Kieran Trippier from reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
Then, in signing Chris Wood, the Magpies got themselves a player perfect for the club at this moment in time.
In doing so, Newcastle also deprived relegation rivals Burnley of a key player.
For a while, the Magpies didn’t have much joy, but now, with Guimaraes seemingly set to join, things are looking up again.
And with Newcastle now seemingly in talks over both Rogerio and Bakker, they look likely to bring in someone new at left-back.
