Newcastle United tried to sign Fabian Ruiz during the January transfer window, and Calciomercato suggests that the Magpies could battle Arsenal for his signature this summer.

Eddie Howe’s side, of course, were busier than anyone else in January. They signed five players to strengthen their push to stay in the Premier League.

Arsenal, on the other hand, signed no marquee names in the window. Instead, Mikel Arteta’s focus appeared to be on moving fringe players on.

It would appear that both clubs are going to try and enjoy a big summer. Certainly, Newcastle will be the one to watch should they remain in the top-flight.

But Arsenal overhauled a large part of their squad last year. So they will also look to complete several exciting deals in the months to come.

And it appears that one player they are both vying over is Fabian. Calciomercato reports that the 25-year-old is facing an uncertain future with Napoli.

It is claimed that talks over a new deal have stalled. And with his current terms up at the end of next season, Napoli may be faced to consider offers.

That did not help Newcastle in January. Calciomercato reports that they were rebuffed when they came calling last month.

However, they remain interested, along with Arsenal and Manchester United. Fabian however, would like to return to Spain, with Barcelona or Real Madrid his preferred destinations.

Fabian would be an inspired signing for Arsenal or Newcastle – if they can convince him to make Premier League move

The Spain international is playing some of the best football of his career to date this season. He has scored five goals and contributed three assists in Serie A.

Fabian is seventh in the league for completed passes, according to FB Ref. And he is 13th for most progressive passes.

Quique Setien previously stated that his development had been ‘spectacular‘. And he should only now be hitting his peak.

Clearly, the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal face a tough battle trying to sign Fabian this summer. But they will hope that they can convince him to snub a dream move for the Premier League.
