Newcastle United have reportedly held talks with former Arsenal midfielder and Welsh international, Aaron Ramsey.

According to JuventusNews24, Newcastle have started discussions with the Juventus man. It comes as the Magpies edge closer to landing a new manager, as well as making plans for the January window.

Ramsey, who earns a whopping £400k-a-week (£20m-a-year) in Turin, is apparently fee to leave the Italian giants. Despite being in and out of the squad since his arrival and doing well in spells, Juve are open to letting Ramsey leave.

JuventusNews24 claim that Newcastle have already reached out to Ramsey and his team over a potential move. It could well mean the Magpies strike in January, as PIF look to land that marquee signing they need.

Ramsey, 30, has made 69 appearances for Wales, scoring 18 goals. While with Arsenal, he made more than 370 appearances, scoring 65 times along the way. By contrast, Ramsey has struck just six times since moving to Juventus.

Newcastle were soundly beaten by Chelsea yesterday. They are expected to accelerate plans to appoint a new manager this week. Further, they are also expected to spend big in January.

TBR’s View: Aaron Ramsey would be great for Newcastle but £400k-a-week is massive

The good thing with Ramsey is that Newcastle would be getting a player who wouldn’t need time to settle in the Premier League. He’s been here and done it, and knows what it’s all about.

The issue comes with the huge contract. Not that paying big wages is a problem for PIF, but it all depends how they manage the FFP rules in their opening few years.

But, in terms of on the pitch, Ramsey would be great. Goals, assists, energy, and international quality. There’s not much else Newcastle fans could realistically ask for. If Ramsey does sign, then it’s a big step in the right direction.
