Report: Newcastle hold talks with Jorge Mendes over Joao Felix
Newcastle United have held talks with Jorge Mendes over a potential January deal for Joao Felix, but 90min reports that their pursuit of the Atletico Madrid star is not as advanced as others in the Premier League.
It appears that a number of sides are very interested in bringing Felix to England. 90min reports that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have spoken to Atleti about a possible loan.
Felix has struggled to live up to expectations since his £113 million move to the Spanish capital. And with that, Diego Simeone’s men are open to letting him leave. However, there is a big catch.
Newcastle hold talks over Joao Felix
90min suggests that Atletico want a clause inserted in any deal which leads to a permanent move. And they are looking for a fee of around £100 million for the 23-year-old.
It is noted that such demands are problematic for his admirers. But interestingly, 90min adds that both Newcastle and Aston Villa have also spoken to Mendes about Felix.
The report notes that their interest is not advanced. But clearly, it remains a very open race with Atletico currently demanding so much for Felix.
Newcastle certainly have the means to win the race for Felix, even if Atletico dig their heels in. The question is whether the Magpies feel that he would be worth the outlay.
There is absolutely no question that Felix has the potential to be worth such an eye-watering sum. He is a ‘very special‘ talent, according Kieran Trippier. And he appears to have an incredibly high ceiling.
However, his struggles with Atletico highlight the importance for Felix to be in the right team.
If Eddie Howe feels that he would be an exciting signing, the Magpies could certainly be dark horses in the race.
