Newcastle United have doubts about signing Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton this summer.
The Magpies have been linked with the England international despite a season where his progress has stagnated and Everton have struggled.
The Daily Mail report that concerns over his form and fitness are putting some at Newcastle off and alternatives are being looked at.
Patrick Bamford of Leeds United is among them although his fitness issues this season have also been noted. Both strikers find themselves in a relegation battle going into the closing days of the campaign.

Newcastle have doubts over Calvert-Lewin
The report says: “Sources are talking of around £60 million plus player sales being available to Newcastle – with a striker the priority – but they say no deals are close and a degree of ‘trading’ should be expected.
“Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on the list of forward targets and his representative was in attendance for the recent 1-0 home defeat by Liverpool.
“However, it is thought other options will first be explored with doubts among some over the 25-year-old’s form and fitness this season.
“Were Leeds to be relegated then Patrick Bamford’s name could enter discussions, but his injury record this term has also been noted.“

The budget mentioned in the article is exactly the amount – £60 million – that Calver-Lewin has been rated at.
With Calvert-Lewin’s fitness struggles, such a big outlay would be a risk and it would be easy to see why Bamford could be an appealing alternative if Leeds go down.
Everton could of course yet drop themselves and Newcastle will likely wait to see how the relegation battle plays out before making any concrete moves.
