Report: Newcastle have now asked about Monaco forward Sofiane Diop

Newcastle United have asked about Monaco striker Sofiane Diop, with Media Foot in France reporting that the Magpies have already spoken to the player’s representatives.

Eddie Howe continues to await the arrival of a new goalscorer on Tyneside. Of course, Newcastle appeared to be closing in on Hugo Ekitike, with a fee agreed at one stage.

More recently, reports have claimed that Newcastle have made a bid for Arnaud Kalimuendo. But with Paris Saint-Germain yet to decide whether they will sell the 20-year-old, the Magpies are now looking elsewhere.

According to Media Foot, Newcastle have made contact with Diop’s representatives about a potential deal. And they know Monaco’s asking price and what terms the 22-year-old wants should he make a move in this window.

It is not yet clear whether Newcastle do plan to follow up on their interest in the youngster.

Newcastle have asked about Monaco striker Sofiane Diop

Diop has enjoyed a couple of decent years in the Monaco first-team, scoring 13 Ligue 1 goals across the last two campaigns.

He is also incredibly versatile, having played on both wings, and even in midfield during his career. And he boasts a very respectable record for France’s under-21s.

He is also someone who works incredibly hard for Monaco. FBRef lists Diop as one of the best wingers across Europe’s top five leagues when it comes to pressures and interceptions.

Obviously, much will depend on how much Monaco want for Diop. And Newcastle may hope that he is not the only forward to arrive this summer.

But clearly, he is a talent with a very bright future. And he may get the chance to move to Newcastle in the coming weeks.
