Report: Newcastle have met with agent of 'frightening' Premier League player over potential summer move
Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Ismaila Sarr this summer, according to FootballTransfers.
The Magpies are now all-but safe in the Premier League after a sensational upturn in form this calendar year.
Newcastle are now in the top half of the table, 11 points clear of the relegation zone.
The new Magpies owners will no doubt have an eye on the transfer window as they look to kick on.
Newcastle have been linked with Sarr over the past few months, and now they have a great opportunity to do so.
While Eddie Howe’s charges will most likely be playing top-flight football next season, Watford probably will not.
According to FootballTransfers, agent Saif Rubie and Senegalese representative Thierno Seydi met with Newcastle last month in London.
Sarr is reportedly looking for a way out of Watford as they edge ever closer to a Championship return.
The report also claims that the Hornets are likely to ask for around £40million for the 24-year-old.
“He does not stop for 90 mins”
Sarr has five goals and two assist from 21 Premier League games this season.
Last season, he got 13 goals and 10 assists in 39 Championship outings en route to promotion.
“He’s frightening. How he does it every single game is scary,” former Watford teammate Will Hughes told the club website last year.
“Everyone talks about his pace and that’s brilliant, but his technique and touch at the pace he runs at is frightening.
“He does not stop for 90 minutes and it’s the control he has at such pace that is the most impressive thing. He’s a good lad, too.”
In the past, clubs have struck gold when signing players from relegated clubs.
Liverpool have snapped up two such stars in recent years – Georginio Wijnaldum and Andrew Robertson.
Sarr has had some injury issues this season, and playing for a struggling team will always be difficult in terms of goal contributions.
However, in the right team, he will surely thrive, so Newcastle should certainly think about signing him.
