Newcastle United are reportedly plotting a move to try sign defender Jetro Willems from German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 26-year-old previously had a loan spell at St James’ Park in the 2019/20 season, which was cut short due to injury.
But the 22-time capped Netherlands international is now being linked with a return to English football.
According to the Shields Gazette, Newcastle have explored a move for the left-back this month and the player is keen on returning to the club.
But the report adds that there are two more Premier League clubs also circling for his signature.
It is explained that Frankfurt are prepared to loan out the left-footer out for the second half of the season, but there is less than two week left for clubs to finalise any business.
Willems may have only played 20 games in a Newcastle shirt, but he certainly made a real positive impact and was a favourite with supporters.
He is an attack-minded full-back that chipped in with two goals and three assists before his injury.
If he does join this month, he may need some time to get up to full speed due to the fact he’s not played all season.
But the speedster can inject the kind of edge that Steve Bruce’s side are massively lacking right now.
