A player reportedly on Newcastle United’s radar is now being sought after by yet another Premier League side, according to The Mail.

The Chronicle claimed earlier in April that the Magpies were keeping tabs on highly-rated Burnley winger Dwight McNeil.

According to the report, Newcastle had been alerted to his availability by sources close to the player’s agency, Unique Sports Management.

The agency also represents Toon players Jamaal Lascelles, Dwight Gayle, Paul Dummett and Karl Darlow, added the outlet.

McNeil has been impressive for the Clarets over the past 18 months, making his breakthrough last season and establishing himself as a key member of Sean Dyche’s team this term.

The 20-year-old has made 58 competitive appearances to date for Burnley, scoring five goals and registering 10 assists.

McNeil is believed to have a long list of suitors, however – Tottenham Hotspur (The Guardian), Everton, Wolves, Leicester City (TEAMtalk), Manchester United and Juventus (Lancs Live) have also been linked.

Now, the Mail has claimed that Crystal Palace are set to step up the chase for the winger after agreeing privately that star man Wilfried Zaha can leave Selhurst Park if the right offer arrives this summer.

TBR View:

An old-school winger with a superb left foot capable of powerful shots and pinpoint crosses, as well as a great engine, it’s little surprise that McNeil – described as “fantastic” and a “real talent” by Dyche (Lancashire Telegraph) – is being linked with other clubs.

With Newcastle on the brink of a takeover, they could soon find themselves with a vast transfer budget, and with a reported price tag of £30million to £35million, McNeil wouldn’t be outrageously expensive, not to mention he has plenty of Premier League experience despite being so young.

While Palace could also find themselves with a decent budget should Zaha be sold, they are unlikely to pose as much of a threat to the Magpies’ hopes of signing McNeil as some of the teams competing for silverware and playing in Europe.
