Newcastle United have been joined in the race for Salomon Rondon. According to Turkish media outlet Ajansspor, Rondon is now on Fenerbahce’s summer wishlist.
The 29-year-old is one of Newcastle’s top targets this summer, according to The Chronicle. He was influential during a season-long loan spell from West Bromwich Albion last season.
West Brom will struggle to hold onto Rondon this summer and a permanent transfer surely beckons. But Newcastle are not alone in their admiration for the powerful centre-forward.
Wolves have held discussions about this potential signing, as per The Daily Mail. And now reports in Turkey suggest Fenerbahce want Rondon.
The Venezuela international scored 12 goals for the Magpies last season. And his role as a target man was central to Rafa Benitez’s plans. Rondon formed a strong partnership with Ayoze Perez.
But this has prompted Fenerbahce to consider a move for the West Brom striker. The Turkish heavyweights had a disappointing 2018/19 campaign and they are desperate to ensure that does not happen again.
Rondon is currently preparing for his country’s Copa America campaign. But he will be eager to resolve his future sooner rather than later.
A return to St James’ Park would surely appeal to Rondon but there are other options on the table. Fenerbahce could offer a completely different project after four years in England.
