Report: Newcastle face competition from European giants for Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo

According to reports in Germany, Newcastle United-linked midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo is a summer target for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The German top division side want to sign Zaniolo from Roma in the summer, as per a report by Sport Bild.

Zaniolo has previously been linked with Newcastle. According to The Chronicle, the Magpies have been scouting Zaniolo ahead of the summer.

The 19-year-old already has plenty of experience in Serie A and is one of the most highly rated young players in Italy.

With six goals and two assists to his name this season, the Italy international is enjoying a rapid rise to the top.

Zaniolo made his Italy debut earlier this year, having broken into the Roma team on a permanent basis.

Newcastle were hoping to lure the talented teenager to St James’ Park but they now face an uphill struggle to land their man.

Bayern Munich are able to offer Champions League football and the chance to compete for the Bundesliga title.

Newcastle’s main trump card would be the prospect of first-team football but he is already getting that regularly at Roma.

Whether Newcastle will firm up their interest in Zaniolo with a concrete bid remains to be seen. But it is clear that they face a major battle if they do press ahead with this target.
