Newcastle United have been linked with almost every name under the sun already and Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is one of them.

The Englishman, labelled as ‘amazing‘ by Rio Ferdinand, joined West Ham United on loan in the second half of last season. He scored nine goals and provided five assists for the Irons and became a wanted man in the summer window.

Manchester United decided to hold onto him but that may not be possible next summer. Lingard’s current deal will expire at the end of this season and a number of clubs, including Newcastle United, are reportedly keen.

The Telegraph revealed a few days ago that Newcastle’s new owners have earmarked Lingard as a potential signing. PIF are expected to show the world what they’ve got in January, and the England attacker would be a stunning signing.

However, the Magpies will reportedly have to battle two of the biggest names in Europe for Lingard’s signature.

Barcelona and AC Milan want Jesse Lingard

According to a report from The Daily Mail, European giants Barcelona and AC Milan will be at the front of the queue to sign Lingard if the Englishman decides to leave Old Trafford for free in the summer.

Lingard has been offered a new deal by Manchester United already. The Englishman rejected a proposal last month and although the Red Devils are expected to come back in with a new offer soon, there’s a good chance he’ll reject that as well.

As a free agent, the 28-year-old can command a huge salary and a mammoth signing-on fee wherever he ends up. That, financially, makes a lot of sense, and if clubs like Barcelona and AC Milan are keen, why wouldn’t he want to explore his options as a free agent.

Newcastle United competing with Barcelona for a signing would’ve been a laughable claim a few weeks ago, but with new, wealthy and ambitious owners in, there’s every chance that the Magpies can table a better offer for Lingard than the other interested clubs.
