Newcastle United are interested in signing Kevin Trapp from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to The Daily Express.

If the Bin Zayed Group completes their takeover of Newcastle, Rafa Benitez wants to use his extra funds to sign PSG goalkeeper Trapp and Venezuelan striker Jan Hurtado.

Trapp is out of favour at PSG, having fallen down the pecking order in recent years. He could be seeking a permanent exit after spending last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 28-year-old is an experienced stopper with first-team experience in Germany and France. He made his name at Kaiserslautern before moving to Frankfurt. He has made nearly 150 Bundesliga appearances in his career, as well as playing 91 times for PSG.

Last season, he played 45 times for Frankfurt, keeping 12 clean sheets. He earned a place in the Europa League Team of the Season after helping Frankfurt to the semi-finals.

But the 3-cap Germany international faces an uncertain future when he returns to Paris. With Gianluigi Buffon and Alphonse Areola preferred to Trapp, he could be seeking an exit.

Newcastle could offer Trapp a route to the Premier League. Despite having several first-team goalkeepers in their squad, Benitez seems keen to bring in another player.

Martin Dubravka was Newcastle’s first-choice goalkeeper last season. But Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman are also competing for places.

But the arrival of Trapp could lead to one or two exits. Newcastle are planning to use their extra money to bolster their squad if the takeover goes ahead.
