Goal have claimed that Newcastle United are now considering another managerial candidate to replace Steve Bruce, this time in the form of Flamengo manager Jorge Jesus – who was linked with a move to St. James’ Park last summer.

Jesus, 65, is currently in charge of his 14th club having sat in the dugout at Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Braga and now Brazilian side Flamengo – who won the Copa Libertadores under the Portuguese gaffer.

ESPN claimed Newcastle have shortlisted four managers in the form of Mauricio Pochettino, Lucien Favre, Rafa Benitez and Max Allegri, while CalcioMercato have claimed that ex-Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti is also an option.

Now, Jesus has emerged as the sixth manager linked the Newcastle post – despite Bruce still being in charge. The new owners could look to appoint a new manager, and Jesus was offered the job last summer before Bruce took over, as per the report.

TBR’s view – Jesus has revolutionised Brazilian football

His expertise would not go amiss in England, either. Despite never managing in the Premier League, Jesus is considered one of Europe’s best ever managers – winning the Portuguese league three times with Benfica.

Indeed, his high defensive line saw the likes of Pablo Mari and Gabigol shine in a Flamengo side that astounded supporters and saw them hold aloft the Copa Libertadores – and reach the Club World Cup final against Liverpool.

Newcastle would be a perfect move for Jesus, but he could be expensive.
