Newcastle United will make a bid for Bournemouth’s £20 million-rated striker Callum Wilson after this weekend if the Cherries are relegated on the final day of the Premier League season, according to a report from the Daily Express.

Eddie Howe’s men will return to the Championship should they fail to beat Everton. Cruelly, a win may also not be enough if Aston Villa or Watford avoid defeat.

Bournemouth fans would be forgiven for feeling that the situation looks bleak at this stage. And it appears that their rivals may also be waiting in the wings in case they cannot pull off the escape.

The Daily Express is claiming that Newcastle will bid for Wilson if they do go down. It is suggested that Steve Bruce is making plans for next season, and wants to add the 28-year-old to his ranks.

TBR View: £20 million move could be steal for Newcastle

Wilson has been an excellent performer in the top flight. He has scored eight goals this term, while he got 14 last season. He has also provided 10 league assists since the start of the last campaign.

His performances have been all the more impressive given the torrid time he endured with injury during the early stages of his Premier League career.

It would be no surprise to see Wilson playing in the top flight next year whatever happens this weekend.

And with Newcastle looking destined to finish the campaign with Jonjo Shelvey as their top goalscorer – he has six currently – it looks to make a lot of sense for the Magpies to look at luring him away from the Vitality Stadium.
