Report: Newcastle enter talks for £40k-a-week player at PL rivals, staff convince Ashley to pay
Newcastle United have reportedly entered talks with Premier League rivals Southampton about signing their player Mario Lemina.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have revived a move for the 27-year-old.
It is understood that earlier this summer Magpies owner Mike Ashley pulled the plug on a deal for the midfielder due to the fact he didn’t want to pay a fee for someone his age. However, Newcastle’s staff have now managed to convince him to change his mind.
The report states the Toon are holding talks over a £4million swoop. In addition, they are offering him a there-year deal at St James’ Park.
Newcastle manager Steve Bruce reportedly believes the Southampton central midfielder can help his team in a big way.
Lemina, who spent last season out on loan with Fulham, is an all-action defensive midfielder.
He’s a £40,000-a-week enforcer that is great when it comes to tackling and intercepting. Also, he’s very comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Mario Lemina would be strong start in quiet Newcastle window so far
Newcastle are yet to sign anyone in this summer’s window, so fans are desperate for them to get a move on.
Bruce’s side finished 12th in the Premier League last season, but surely they can push for a top half finish with a couple more notable additions.
Lemina ticks a lot of boxes for Newcastle.
He’s someone that looks amazing value for money at £4million because he’s at an age he should be reaching his peak. Additionally, he’s got experience in English football.
