Newcastle United are reportedly interested in a move for German defender Koray Gunter.
According to Calciomercato, the Magpies had scouts watch the enforcer in action on Tuesday night in the Italian top-flight.
The 25-year-old is currently out on loan at Hellas Verona this season from Serie A rivals Genoa.
It is understood that Hellas Verona have the option to sign him permanently for £4.5million.
But the report also explains that Newcastle are keen on the centre-back and a £9million bd in the January transfer window is being considered by the Premier League outfit.

TBR’s View:
Gunter has impressed so far this season in the Italian top-flight with Hellas Verona, who were only promoted from Serie B last season.
The centre-back has slotted nicely into a back three and he’s a physical defender that is decent on the ball too.
Newcastle have found great success in recent times using a three-man defence and the centre-back positions are perhaps the strongest area of the pitch for them.
Gunter is a promising talent that should soon reach his peak, but Steve Bruce’s team should focus strengthening other areas of the park and the defender is still yet to show consistency over a long period of time during his career.
